(The Most Beautiful Niece - Both
Inside and Out...my chief
Bridesmaid)
The sweetest smile you've ever
seen,
Belonged to my niece, Geraldine.
A heart of gold, an angel on
earth,
She suffered so much,
From the time of her birth.

A hole in her heart,
And blind in one eye,
Not once did she question,
As to the reason why.

She fought so hard,
To keep up with the rest,
And achieved so much,
And was one of the best.

Her confidence grew,
She began enjoying her life,
But that life was taken,
Before she became a man's wife.

A lorry stopped, on the icy
road,
But the driver's mind was on
delivering his load.
Not seeing her fall, as
her bike slipped to the ground,
He drove the vehicle forward,
and she was Heaven bound.

We all cried that day,
When the angels came,
And none of our lives,
Were ever the same.

At her grave we all wept,
There was not a dry eye,
Her boyfriend broke down,
And just wanted to die.

It was the hardest of days,
For us all to live through,
But we had to go on,
There was nothing we could do.

It's been 25 years since that
awful day,
When at 19 years old she was
taken away.
I've never stopped missing her,
My niece and my friend,
And today as ever, to sweet
Geraldine,
All my love I do send.

Nothing in this world can take
away the pain
even after all this time...
Nothing can take away
the love we have for her and
always will...
Nothing can take away
the hole left in all of our
lives...

I know a
loaf of bread is an odd
thing to bring back memories
about someone but to me it
brings back lovely memories
of Geraldine and myself
trying to track down yeast
in Hertford so that I could
make bread. |
It was the
1970s and because of the miner's
strike and the three day week
bread was scarce. If you didn't
get to the shop early you didn't
get any or you had to queue for
ages for it. Instead of having
all that hassle I decided to
make some but we couldn't find
any yeast in Ware, Hertfordshire
where Geraldine lived so we got
on a bus to Hertford to track
some down. We got some and went
back to her house and made loads
of loaves and filled the freezer
with them. I think she was only
about 9 or 10 at the time. She
and her brothers didn't know
that you could actually make
your own bread..after all..bread
came wrapped, fresh from the
supermarket didn't it? lol
